McDermott's Intellectual Property Department Named as Leading Provider For Fortune 100 Companies

CHICAGO (September 1, 2009) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that it has once again been named a leading provider of intellectual property services for Fortune 100 companies in Corporate Counsel’s “Who Represents America’s Biggest Companies:  The 2009 Survey” (August 2009).  In this year’s review, the Firm was recognized for its intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution work on behalf of a number of the top 100 companies, including American Express, Archer Daniels Midland, Cardinal Health, J.P. Morgan Chase, Lockheed Martin and Verizon Communications.

Said Terrence P. McMahon, head of the Firm’s global Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, “This most recent recognition by Corporate Counsel once again underscores our commitment to delivering the highest-quality service and legal solutions to our clients, year after year.”

In creating this year’s report, Corporate Counsel looked at data from January 1, 2008, through December 31, 2008.  The survey is conducted using Thomson Reuter’s Monitor Suite, which compiles information about lawyers, law firms, roles, representation and parties from a broad range of legal documents, including Federal Circuit court dockets filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals; federal district court dockets on active and inactive civil and criminal cases; and federal case law decisions from the U.S. Supreme Court, courts of appeals, district courts, Court of Federal Claims, Tax Court, related federal courts and military courts.  The publication listed the top ten firms with two or more mentions in litigation, and the top three firms with one or more mentions in each of the three areas of patent prosecution.

With one of the most active patent, trademark and copyright prosecution, licensing and litigation practices in the United States and worldwide, McDermott has consistently been named among the go-to firms for intellectual property services.  Most recently, the Firm's Intellectual Property Department was listed as a top-tier practice in Chambers Global 2009, Chambers USA 2009 and The Legal 500 United States.
