The Surfrider Foundation Honors McDermott Lawyers With the 2009 Wavemaker Award
MIAMI (February 11, 2010) — McDermott Will & Emery LLP is pleased to announce that the Surfrider Foundation’s Board of Directors and Staff honored select individuals and companies for their outstanding volunteer efforts and support during 2009 to help the organization fulfill its mission of protecting our oceans, waves and beaches. McDermott partners Jeremy Elman, Dan Foster, Mark Itri and associate Brock Wilson, were awarded with the Surfrider Foundation’s 2009 Wavemaker Award.
More specifically, the team of lawyers were awarded for their instrumental role in several legal campaigns, including Surfrider Foundation’s Supreme Court beach access amicus effort, Integrated Water Campaign litigation and other local chapter issues. They committed hundreds of hours of attorney time to the Foundation this year alone, but have been supporters for several years.
"Pro bono and community service is a core value of our Firm and we are grateful for this recognition which illustrates our commitment to give back to the communities of which we are a part," commented H. Guy Collier, chair of the Firm’s Pro Bono & Community Service Committee "This is a very nice acknowledgment for all of the team’s efforts in the Florida matters and I’d like to extend my congratulations to Jeremy, Dan, Mark and Brock.”
The Surfrider Foundation Board of Directors created the Wavemaker Awards to call attention to the contributions made by its membership to carry out mission related work. Contributions may be time, effort and/or monetary.
