Jeffrey E. Stone to Head Trial Department
CHICAGO (March 23, 2005) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Jeffrey E. Stone, a partner based in McDermott's Chicago office, is the new Chair of the Firm’s 225-lawyer Trial Department. Mr. Stone succeeds Robert E. Bouma who has successfully led the Trial Department for the past five years.

Mr. Stone, a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, is a member of the Firm’s Management Committee, and has chaired the Firm's White-Collar Criminal Defense Practice Group for the past eight years. Mr. Stone concentrates his practice in the areas of white-collar criminal defense, complex commercial litigation, internal investigations and RICO, representing both corporations and individuals.

Prior to joining McDermott, Mr. Stone served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago for five years, most recently as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Receiving and Appellate Division. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, he tried numerous federal jury trials in the area of white-collar crime, focusing on complex financial crime, fraud, public corruption and tax prosecutions. From 1995-2000, Mr. Stone also served as outside counsel of the Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board, where he led the successful prosecution of former Illinois Supreme Court Justice James Heiple and Circuit Court Judge Oliver Spurlock. During 1983 and 1984, he served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Robert F. Peckham of the U.S. District Court in San Francisco.
Mr. Stone is currently National Chairman of the Stanford Fund, responsible for all annual giving to Stanford University, and is Vice Chair of Stanford's $1 billion Campaign for Undergraduate Education.
