Growing IP Department Calls for Local Office & Practice Area Heads

WASHINGTON, D.C.  — Over the past six years, McDermott Will & Emery’s Intellectual Property Department has grown by more than 700% to over 140 lawyers and patent agents. With the Firm’s continued expansion, Jack Lever, Head of IP Department, which currently includes significant IP capabilities in eight of the Firm’s ten offices, has announced the following local office IP practice heads:

  • Boston - Toby Kusmer
  • Chicago - Peg Duncan
  • Los Angeles - Jorge Arciniega
  • Munich - Boris Uphoff
  • Orange County - Fay Morisseau
  • Silicon Valley - Terry McMahon  

In addition, Mr. Lever has appointed Stephen Becker, an IP partner in the Washington, D.C. office and a thirty-year veteran in the field, to head the Firm’s Patent Prosecution Practice. Currently comprised of more than 60 registered patent lawyers and agents, the Firm’s patent prosecution group represents one of the largest and most accomplished concentrations of prosecution experience in the country. Intellectual Property Today ranked McDermott Will & Emery ninth among the top 309 patent firms, and third among general law firms having intellectual property practices. In 2001, more than 1,579 U.S. issued patents were prosecuted by McDermott, Will & Emery practitioners.
