Head of International Trade Practice Named
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Carolyn Gleason will head the Firm's International Trade Practice Group. Ms. Gleason is globally recognized for her work in dispute settlement under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), having served as chief private sector counsel in numerous dispute settlement actions.
She will lead the practice group which focuses its practice on WTO cases, import relief, customs work, export control work, bilateral and regional trade issues, trade legislation and other international trade matters. The Firm’s International Trade Practice Group assists clients in the expansion of their export and import trade, and in preventing competitors from engaging in unfair trade practices.
Ms. Gleason has successfully handled many international trade disputes. Her most recent dispute settlement actions were the highly recognized cases against European banana policies before the WTO. These legal victories have set important precedents in a wide array of substantive and procedural areas of WTO discipline. Ms. Gleason has written extensively about the WTO and has been called upon to testify before the U.S. Congress on this subject.
