McDermott Adds to German Corporate M&A Practice With New Partner

MUNICH, GERMANY (17 December 2007) — Dr. Stephan Brandes, an attorney who focuses on mergers and acquisitions and corporate law, will become a partner in the corporate law and M&A practice based in McDermott Will & Emery's Munich office, effective 1 January 2008.

Within corporate law, Dr. Brandes' main focus is on stock corporation law and corporate restructuring.  In particular, Dr. Brandes has specific experience with European corporate law.  He is also well-versed in M&A transactions, capital markets, insolvency and insurance matters.  Dr. Brandes previously worked for Sherman & Sterling.

He has advised listed companies and medium-sized enterprises both in Germany and abroad on matters concerning national and international M&A transactions, as well as corporate restructuring.  Dr. Brandes has been a permanent consultant for a major medium-sized chemicals group on numerous corporate acquisitions and disposals in Germany and worldwide, as well as providing advice on all fundamental corporate legal matters.  He has also advised a DAX 30 group regarding a transnational merger, including the simultaneous foundation of a European stock corporation (SE).

Dr. Brandes' arrival is part of the continuous expansion of the corporate law and M&A practice  at McDermott’s Munich office.  McDermott had already added two new attorneys to its corporate law and M&A practice in 2007.  Dr. Stephan Rau joined McDermott as a new partner and Dr. Andrea Helfrich joined McDermott as an associate.  The resulting successful expansion of the health care practice group has already attracted major attention on the market in the past year.

Christian von Sydow, head of the Munich corporate law practice, said:  "We are thrilled that Dr. Brandes is joining us.  This addition to our team is the next logical step in the successful expansion of our practice."
