McDermott Expands Corporate Practice in Germany

MUNICH (13 January 2010) — McDermott Will & Emery Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater LLP announced the strengthening of its corporate/M&A capabilities with the addition of Dr. Carsten Böhm.  Dr. Böhm, previously of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, has joined McDermott as a new partner in the Munich office.  In addition to his experience in mergers & acquisitions and general corporate work, Dr. Böhm has particular experience in private equity and in the acquisition of whole venture capital portfolios.

Dr. Böhm advises clients in international and national transactions in the fields of private equity (buy-outs), mergers & acquisitions and venture capital (secondary and late stage), and all associated corporate law matters, including restructurings, limited partnership law and corporate governance, as well as with respect to general commercial transactional issues.  He advises on all issues relevant to a transaction from the preparation and structuring of the transaction process to contractual negotiations, the closing of the transaction and post-closing restructurings.  His clients are predominantly private equity houses and corporates.

The addition of Dr. Böhm brings the number of corporate partners in Germany to nine, with four being in Munich and five based in the Düsseldorf office with a further counsel in Düsseldorf.  The Firm is continuing to expand in the corporate area and expects to add further to the team with specialists, including in M&A, corporate real estate and distressed transactions over the course of this year.

Christian von Sydow, head of the corporate practice in the Munich office, commented: “We are very much looking forward to working together with Dr. Böhm.  He has proven experience in the fields of private equity, corporate M&A, venture capital and restructurings, which will greatly enhance our practice.  Dr. Böhm is well known in the market for his commercial focus and for his implementation expertise, and will be a welcome addition to our team.”

“Expansion of our capabilities in Germany is a key part of our European growth strategy” stated David Goldman, head of the global Corporate Advisory Practice Group.  “We already have great strength and depth in the team and the addition of Dr. Böhm, with his private equity expertise, will enhance our offering.  I look forward to welcoming him to the Firm.”

Dr. Böhm stated: “Over the last few years McDermott has proved that lateral partners were able to integrate themselves in the Firm very successfully and to use the Firm’s platform to expand their practice.  I am looking forward to being part of a successful and friendly team and having access to the extraordinary expertise of the partners and of other colleagues in the group, both globally and within Germany.  The strength of the German team in other areas, such as tax, employment, intellectual property, real estate and regulated markets (health and media) added further to the appeal of the Firm.”
