Senior Advisor to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer Joins McDermott Will & Emery

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 22, 2008) — The international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that David Ransom will join the Firm on August 18, 2008 as legislative counsel based in the Firm's Washington, D.C. office.  Mr. Ransom previously served as Senior Communications and Policy Advisor to U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.  He will be a member of McDermott's Government Strategies Practice Group.

In his previous position as Senior Communications and Policy Advisor to U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Mr. Ransom advised the Leader on communications, political, policy and Floor strategy, and ensured coordination between the Leader's policy and communications operations.  He was also responsible for developing and executing proactive strategies on a wide range of policy issues, including tax, energy and national security, and he produced advocacy materials to be used by Members of the Democratic Caucus.  In his almost 10 years on Capitol Hill, Mr. Ransom also served as Communications Director for Congressman Hoyer during the Congressman's tenure as Democratic Whip and as Ranking Democrat on the Committee on House Administration. 

Prior to working for Majority Leader Hoyer, Mr. Ransom was Deputy Communications Director for the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, where he worked with association's public affairs operation on its lobbying strategy in Congress and in state legislatures.  While in law school, he was a law clerk for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Orlando, Florida, where he wrote appellate briefs.
Mr. Ransom earned his J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law, where he was an associate editor of the William Mitchell Law Review, and his B.A. from the University of Iowa.
