Litigation Team Joins McDermott's Los Angeles Office
LOS ANGELES (March 2, 2006) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the addition of a labor and employment litigation team led by Phyllis Kupferstein to the Firm's Los Angeles office. Ms. Kupferstein, Jill Basinger and Jon Dean will be joining the Firm's Trial Department as partners. The group previously practiced at the law firm of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges, LLP, which Ms. Kupferstein co-founded in 1986.

The group concentrates on employment-related matters, such as wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, ERISA and wage and hour litigation, including class actions. The group also brings significant counseling experience advising employers on a full range of work place issues including force reductions, removal of executives, due diligence assessments, legal compliance and training. In addition, Phyllis and her senior team leaders bring formidable courtroom experience. This group adds a dynamic new capability to our Firm-wide employment group and will help further strengthen our bench in a number of complex litigation areas.

Biographical Notes
Phyllis Kupferstein concentrates her practice on employment-related matters, including wrongful termination, workplace harassment, discrimination and ERISA. She also has extensive experience in complex litigation matters, including securities and consumer class actions, and qui tam litigation. Ms. Kupferstein is a member of the American Bar Association and its Litigation, Labor and Employment, and Health Law Sections, as well as the State Bar of California and its Litigation and Labor and Employment Law Sections. She is also a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, where she serves on the Executive Committee of the Labor and Employment section, as well as a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles. Ms. Kupferstein earned her J.D. cum laude from Loyola Marymount University, where she served as articles editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review , and her B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Jill Basinger concentrates her practice on employment issues, including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment and wage and hour. She also has extensive experience in the areas of copyright and trademark infringement, unfair competition, fraud and other complex business litigation. Ms. Basinger earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan, where she served as articles editor for the Michigan Journal of Gender and Law, and her B.A. cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she was twice collegiate national debate champion. She clerked for the Honorable A. Andrew Hauk, Chief Judge Emeritus of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. She is a member of the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Jon Dean concentrates his practice on employment, intellectual property and other complex business litigation, as well as white-collar criminal defense. Mr. Dean earned his J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, where he served as senior articles editor for the Berkeley Journal of International Law, and his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was twice collegiate national debate champion. He clerked for the Honorable A. Andrew Hauk, Chief Judge Emeritus of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Mexican American Bar Association and the Japanese American Bar Association.
