Top Litigator Joins Boston Office
BOSTON (May 9, 2005) — Thomas O. Bean joined McDermott Will & Emery's Trial Department as a partner on Friday, May 6, 2005. Based in the Firm's Boston office, Mr. Bean will continue his practice on commercial litigation and business bankruptcy matters.
"Tom is well-known in the Boston legal market," commented Doron Ezickson, partner-in-charge of the Boston office. "He will quickly become an important member of our firm and a key resource for our clients."
Mr. Bean represents Fortune 50 and smaller companies in bankruptcy and litigation matters around the country; he also counsels them in drafting contract provisions to protect them in the event of a bankruptcy filing by an important vendor or customer. He recently represented a company in defending a bankruptcy trustee's $20 million claim for breach of fiduciary duty and receipt of preferential and fraudulent transfers. He currently represents a company seeking to recover millions of dollars from an equipment lessor.
From 1992 to1998, Mr. Bean served as a Massachusetts assistant attorney general, where he argued more than 15 cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. In addition, he tried a number of cases in the U.S. Massachusetts Superior Court and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

Mr. Bean co-chaired the Bankruptcy Section of the Boston Bar Association, December 2000 -2004. He earned his J.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, an Ed.M. from Harvard University, and an A.B. cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
McDermott's Boston office has 85 lawyers practicing in the areas of corporate and securities, employee benefits, energy services, environmental law, health law, intellectual property, international, labor and employment, litigation/dispute resolution, real estate, telecommunications and tax.
