McDermott's Tax Practice Named Among 2010 Top Global Practices by International Tax Review
CHICAGO (March 11, 2010) — McDermott Will & Emery LLP is pleased to announce that the Firm has once again been ranked among the world’s leading tax practices in International Tax Review’s 2010 edition of its World Tax guide.
McDermott’s Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Silicon Valley tax practices were ranked in the first tier of leading local firms in North America. Additionally, the Firm’s New York tax practice was highly ranked by the World Tax guide. In particular, the guide noted that McDermott “represents more than half of the Fortune 100 companies in tax matters on a regular basis and provides comprehensive tax services.”
Chicago-based partner and head of the Firm’s U.S. & International Tax Practice Group, Lowell D. Yoder, was described by competitors as a "true leader" in the Chicago market and as “exceptional, absolutely top tier." The “well-respected” Chicago practice received commendations for its “first class advice in all areas of corporate taxation,” including transactions and controversy, with particularly strong work in corporate restructuring.
The World Tax guide noted that Silicon Valley practice counsels companies on international tax planning and represents clients in IRS controversies at examination, appeals and in the U.S. Tax Court. Furthermore, the guide noted that throughout the past year McDermott’s New York office advised a leading premium drinks business and its affiliates in a major corporate restructuring.
In Europe, McDermott’s tax practices in Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom were listed among the leading firms. The Firm’s Italian team won praise from clients and competitors for its "impeccable, timely, accurate and well communicated advice and service" and "well-rounded expertise and knowledge of tax planning and issues in relation to both domestic and cross-border transactions." Rome-based partner and head of the Italian tax practice, Carlo Maria Paolella, and Milan-based partner, Andrea Tempestini, were singled out for special recognition. Likewise, London-based partner and head of the UK tax department, Peter M.W. Nias, and Munich-based partner Dirk Pohl, head of both the Munich office and the German Tax Practice, were also identified individually in the guide for their work on a broad array of tax matters.
The International Tax Review’s World Tax 2010 guide is a comprehensive guide to the world's leading tax firms and tax advisers.
