Ira B. Mirsky Joins McDermott Will & Emery

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 13, 2009) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP is pleased to announce that Ira B. Mirsky has joined the Firm as Counsel in the Employee Benefits Department, resident in the Washington, DC. office.  Mr. Mirsky's practice focuses primarily on tax controversy and compliance matters related to employee compensation and benefits arrangements, and employment tax and information reporting issues in general.

Previously Mr. Mirsky represented clients in controversy proceedings before the IRS on matters related to employee compensation, fringe and welfare benefit arrangements, and tax-qualified and nonqualified retirement plans.  He successfully settled cases, both at IRS Examination and Appeals levels, involving employee fringe and welfare benefit arrangements, business travel expense reimbursement arrangements, equity-based compensation, as well as tax-qualified and nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements. 

Most recently, Mr. Mirsky served as the Private Sector Co-Chair of the Employee Benefits Sessions for the 2009 Federal Bar Association Tax Conference.  He is currently the Vice Chair of the Important Developments for the Employment Taxes Committee of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association (ABA), as well as a member of the ABA's Employment Taxes Committee and Administrative Practices Committee.

Mr. Mirsky received his Masters of Laws in Taxation at Georgetown University Law Center, his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law, and his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland.
