Barbara A. Jones to Lead Boston's Securities Practice Group

BOSTON (March 25, 2008) — McDermott Will & Emery is very pleased to announce that senior corporate lawyer Barbara A. Jones has joined the Firm's corporate practice in the Boston office.  Ms. Jones will further enhance the Firm's corporate finance and private equity capabilities, and will lead the Boston Securities Practice Group.  She will also join the Firm's U.S. cross-departmental Life Sciences Practice Group.

Timothy Alvino, head of the Firm's Corporate Department, commented that the depth and range of Barbara's practice and her capital markets experience will further strengthen the Corporate Department.  "Barbara is a strong addition to our corporate practice.  I am confident she will be very effective in leading the Boston office's securities practice."

Ms. Jones maintains a diverse corporate and securities law practice across industry groups, with an emphasis on complex domestic and international transactions, including private and public financings, PIPEs and special purpose acquisition corporations (SPACs), alternative exit strategies, dual listings, mergers and acquisitions, and licensing transactions.

Ms. Jones has regularly served as counsel to investment banks, private equity funds and other financial institutions, as well as public and private companies in life sciences and biotechnology, information technology, energy, telecommunications, media, entertainment and sports.  Her practice is international in scope, and she actively represents professional and Olympic athletes and sports-related organizations.

Ms. Jones currently serves as vice-chair of the ABA's Subcommittee on International Securities Matters and will begin a three-year term as chairwoman of that committee in August 2008.  Ms. Jones is also a member of several other professional associations, including the International, California, Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations; Sports Lawyers Association; National Sports Marketing Network; Society for English and American Lawyers; and Congress of Fellows of the Center for International Legal Studies.  Ms. Jones is also on the Board of Visitors for Pepperdine University School of Law.

Ms. Jones earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Pepperdine University School of Law where she served as editor-in-chief of the law review.  She received her B.A., with honors, from Michigan State University.  Ms. Jones is admitted to practice in the states of California and Massachusetts.
