International Tax Partner Returns to Washington, D.C. Office

WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 8, 2004) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Philip McCarty has rejoined the Firm's Washington, D.C. office as a partner in the Tax Department.  He previously worked at McDermott from January 1994 to September 2001.  Mr. McCarty advises clients, predominantly large publicly held companies, on a wide range of U.S. and international tax issues, including issues relating to global joint ventures, financial products, tax accounting and lease financing.

"Philip is highly respected in the tax community and he brings a wealth of experience and credentials to our international tax practice," commented Stephen Wells, head of the Firm's Washington, D.C. tax practice.  "We are delighted to have him back at the Firm.”

Mr. McCarty has served as associate tax legislative counsel in the Office of Tax Policy, U.S. Department of the Treasury and law clerk for Judge William M. Fay of the United States Tax Court.  He is currently an adjunct faculty member at Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C., where he teaches classes in international taxation, taxation of partnerships, income tax accounting and consolidated returns.

Mr. McCarty received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in 1973.  He received his law degree in 1975 from the University of Denver and his master of laws degree in taxation in 1977 from New York University.  Mr. McCarty is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia and Colorado as well as the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants.
