Energy & Derivatives Markets Practice Group Expanded
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Peter Y. Malyshev has joined the Firm’s Energy and Derivatives Markets Practice Group as counsel. Resident in the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office, Mr. Malyshev concentrates his practice on regulatory issues related to commodities and securities transactions.
Mr. Malyshev was previously in private practice advising multinational banks and mutual funds regarding U.S. and international derivatives, investment management, banking and securities matters and financing and securitization issues, including issues related to the internet. He has worked at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Division of Economic Analysis, where he focused on exempt energy derivatives markets and interpretations of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. Mr. Malyshev’s experience also includes work on behalf of Harvard University at the Federal Commission on Securities Markets in Moscow, Russia. While at the Federal Commission on Securities Markets, he drafted Russian securities legislation and prepared releases on behalf of the Russian Securities Commission.

Mr. Malyshev studied Japanese history and economics at the College of Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University, Russia. He earned a master’s degree in international business and economics from California State University and a J.D., with distinction, from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Additionally, Mr. Malyshev holds a LL.M. in securities and financial regulation, which he received from Georgetown University Law Center. He is a registered broker in the United States and Russia, and is admitted to practice in California, England and Wales.
