McDermott and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Provide Support to Boston Bar Foundation
BOSTON (November 1, 2004) — With the approach of the John & Abigail Adams Benefit Ball, the principal fund-raising gala for the Boston Bar Foundation (BBF), BBF President Richard Soden announced two new "Diamond Sponsors" pledging $50,000 each: the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The Adams Ball will be held on November 13, 2004.
"This level of generosity represents corporate citizenship at its best," said President Soden. "These sponsorships will help advance the BBF's mission, which is to fund legal services for the poor, improve the administration of justice and support law-related public service initiatives."
On November 13, more than 800 lawyers, judges, and business leaders are expected to attend the Adams Ball at Boston's Westin Hotel, where William C. Van Faasen, Chairman and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, will be honored with the BBF's Public Service Award.
For McDermott Will & Emery, known nationally for its "Kids First" initiative, becoming a Diamond Sponsor underscores the Firm's recognition of the fact that the BBF has a tradition of making grants to groups providing legal assistance to children in need. The Firm plans to build upon this financial investment with a substantial pro bono partnership with the Family Advocacy Program at Boston Medical Center.
"As a Firm with an international practice, we pride ourselves on making meaningful contributions at the local level," said Doron Ezickson, Partner-in-Charge of McDermott's Boston office. "We also look forward to celebrating Bill's public service accomplishments, and can think of no honoree more deserving than Bill."
For Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, becoming a Diamond Sponsor highlights a long-standing commitment to funding worthy community initiatives.
