McDermott, Will & Emery Hosts Reception to Promote Pro Bono Projects in Chicago
CHICAGO - McDermott Will & Emery recently hosted a reception featuring six Chicago organizations that provide pro bono legal services to those who could not otherwise afford assistance. Representatives from these organizations introduced themselves to McDermott attorneys, and presented and discussed their organizations' missions and needs.
"Events like this effectively facilitate the communication between those in need of legal services in our community and those who can provide such services," commented Don Hilliker, Chair of the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee. "The information shared by the agencies presented us with a variety of avenues we can pursue in the Firm’s pro bono efforts."
Pro bono organizations in attendance included the Chicago Legal Clinic, the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation, the Community Economic Development Law Project, the Coordinated Advice and Referral Program for Legal Services, the Lawyer's Committee for Better Housing and the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago.
"This pro bono event demonstrated the Firm’s continued commitment to serving disadvantaged individuals," commented Veda Dmitrovic, Pro Bono Director at the Chicago Legal Clinic. "It was a wonderful opportunity for the Chicago Legal Clinic and other legal service organizations to provide information on the volunteer opportunities that exist for McDermott’s lawyers."
As a result of the reception, members of McDermott Will & Emery's Pro Bono Committee will periodically distribute information on specific pro bono projects available through these organizations to the Firm’s lawyers.
