McDermott Named Among Three Most LGBT-Friendly Firms in Illinois

CHICAGO (July 21, 2010) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Equality Illinois ranked the Firm as one of the three most Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) friendly firms in Illinois.  Firm’s are ranked based on information provided in the 2010 Equality Illinois Law Firm Survey.  McDermott, as well as two other firms that support LGBT workplace equality, will be recognized at the Lawyers for Diversity barbeque hosted by the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago on July 29, 2010.

Lisa A. Linsky, McDermott’s Partner-in-Charge of Firm-wide Diversity, said of the ranking:  “This recognition by Equality Illinois confirms our view that companies and employees expect diversity and equality in the workplace.  McDermott’s commitment to diversity reflects our Firm’s values, and I am particularly grateful for this recognition which showcases the success of our diversity initiatives not only in Illinois, but across the nation.”

This ranking follows on the heels of two additional LGBT recognitions that McDermott has recently received.  This spring, Ms. Linsky was selected to receive the Empire State Pride Agenda Foundation’s 2010 “Equality @ Work” Award.  The award recognizes Ms. Linsky’s leadership in helping to create a fair and equal workplace for LGBT employees.  Furthermore, in March 2010, McDermott was named one of the “Best Places to Work” in the United States for LGBT individuals by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), the largest civil rights organization working to achieve LGBT equality.  McDermott’s selection reflected the Firm’s 100 percent score on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index, which assesses six broad measures of organizational support for policies and practices that promote fairness and equality in the workplace for LGBT employees.  The 100 percent score on HRC’s 2010 Corporate Equality Index marks the fourth consecutive year that McDermott received this highest rating.
