Leading Capital Markets Partners Join MWE in New York
NEW YORK — The international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery today announced that Thomas McGavin, formerly of Clifford Chance and has joined the Firm’s New York office as partner. He is recognized as leader in derivative and structured finance transactions, Mr. McGavin will further enhance MWE’s capital markets practice with an emphasis on representing commercial and investment banks in connection with credit protection, equity and other derivative and securitization products. Mr. McGavin previously practiced for nine years at Clifford Chance and its New York predecessor, Rogers & Wells.

Thomas McGavin advises domestic and foreign commercial banks, investment banks and other financial institutions operating in the United States and globally as dealers in the derivative and structured products markets. He advises on regulatory matters, negotiation and documentation of derivative and structured transactions, dispute resolution and financing. His practice includes corporate and securities transactional work with a focus on the development and application of financial products in the public and private securities and derivatives markets. Mr. McGavin currently focuses extensively on products in the credit and equity derivatives markets, including over-the-counter credit and equity derivatives and structured securities. He is also a leader in the developing market for securitization of private equity fund investments.

Mr. Suh provides counsel to leading U.S., European, and Asian banks, underwriters, investment managers, derivatives dealers, insurers, and other financial institutions in connection with innovative structured finance and derivative transactions. His practice encompasses a range of structured finance and derivatives products, including CDOs (synthetic, cash flow, market value, hybrid, balance sheet, arbitrage), hedge fund and private equity CFOs, structured credit default and total return swaps, hedge funds, credit-linked notes, leveraged structured finance products and equipment lease securitization products.

Mr. McGavin earned a B.A. from Amherst College, and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He also received a LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in New York.
Mr. Suh graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in government. He received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. He is a qualified lawyer in New York.
