Partner Honored with 2008 CICA Distinguished Service Award

CHICAGO (February 13, 2008) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) has named Thomas M. Jones, a Chicago tax partner, its recipient of the 2008 CICA Distinguished Service Award.  The 2008 CICA Distinguished Service Award is the highest award possible in the captive insurance industry.  Mr. Jones' practice focuses on federal and state tax, insurance, regulatory and legal matters concerning captive insurance and other alternatives to commercial insurance.

"I cannot say enough about Tom Jones.  He is knowledgeable, thoughtful and sharing and is considered by all as one of the senior statesmen of the captive industry.  He is truly a deserving honoree," commented Dennis Harwick, CICA President.

In 2001, Mr. Jones was recognized by the Government of the Cayman Islands in cooperation with the Cayman Insurance Managers Association for his "outstanding contribution made to the Cayman Islands' captive insurance industry."  In 2005, he was honored by the Vermont Captive Insurance Association as the recipient of its Annual Industry Service Award.

Mr. Jones, a frequent guest speaker on captive tax, legal and regulatory issues, shares his knowledge generously at virtually every major captive industry event.  He has extensive transactional experience in all popular U.S. and offshore captive insurance jurisdictions.

He also is a founding faculty member and a director of the International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE), where he has taught courses on Forming and Operating a Captive Insurance Company and the Basics of Cell Captives.

CICA will honor the recipients of CICA Distinguished Service Award and the CICA Outstanding Captive Award at the Opening Session of the 2008 CICA International Conference on Thursday, March 6, 2008.

CICA is the only domicile-neutral captive insurance association.  Founded in 1972 by risk managers for their collective benefit, CICA works to provide the foremost education, networking and leadership for captive and risk retention group professionals.  Through CICA’s personal network focused on the common issues that concern captives and risk retention groups, members are constantly exploring new ways to broaden the use of their captives to increase flexibility in program design, stabilize long-term program costs and increase access to both domestic and offshore reinsurance capacity.  For program details visit CICAworld.com.
