Washingtonian Magazine Names Four McDermott Partners As Washington's Top Lawyers
WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 18, 2009) — McDermott Will & Emery LLP is pleased to announce that Washingtonian magazine has named four of the Firm’s Washington, D.C. partners to its “Top Lawyers” list. Bobby R. Burchfield, Joel M. Freed, Abbe D. Lowell, and Blake D. Rubin were honored as the capital’s top legal minds in the publication’s December 2009 issue for their work in complex corporate litigation and election law, intellectual property litigation, white collar criminal defense, and tax, respectively.
The “Top Lawyers” list, based on peer recommendations and independent research, highlights the top one percent of an estimated 80,000 attorneys practicing in the D.C. metropolitan area.
Bobby R. Burchfield serves on the Firm’s Management Committee and is co-partner-in-charge of the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Burchfield has practiced in the areas of complex trial and appellate litigation for almost 30 years. He has successfully tried cases to juries and judges throughout the country and argued before numerous appellate courts including the United States Supreme Court.
Joel M. Freed is the head of the Firm’s IP litigation practice in D.C. He has more than 35 years of experience in all areas of intellectual property and focuses his practice on intellectual property and antitrust disputes before numerous federal district and appellate courts across the country. Mr. Freed also handles cases before the International Trade Commission and practices before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Abbe D. Lowell is a member of the Firm’s Trial Department and is head of the White-Collar Criminal Defense Practice Group in Washington D.C. His practice focuses on litigation, special investigations, and regulatory enforcement. He has successfully tried complex cases, both civil and criminal, throughout the United States, and has briefed and argued dozens of appeals before federal and state appeals courts and before the United States Supreme Court.
Blake D. Rubin is a member of the Tax Department, practicing in the area of federal taxation, with particular emphasis on matters relating to partnership and real estate taxation. He has extensive experience structuring large partnership and real estate transactions, and regularly represents several of the 20 largest U.S. real estate developers and owners in transactional matters.
