Partners Named "Outstanding Advocates"
LOS ANGELES - Timothy Blanchard, resident in McDermott Will & Emery's Los Angeles office, was recently honored as "Outstanding Advocate of the Year" by Public Counsel, the public interest law office of the Los Angeles County and Beverly Hills Bar Associations. Mr. Blanchard was recognized by Public Counsel, the largest pro bono law office in the nation with more than 18,000 volunteer lawyers, law students and legal professionals, for educating the members of 150 community health clinics regarding the privacy standards of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Members of McDermott Will & Emery's HIPAA Practice Group have extensive experience in health privacy issues. The Firm's health lawyers frequently speak at privacy and security conferences and serve on the boards of numerous HIPAA organizations and Task Forces, including the Board of Directors of the Privacy Officers Association, of which McDermott, Will & Emery is a founding member. The Firm's HIPAA Practice Group recently created HIPAA Privacy Solutions, a product enabling organizations to limit the extent of costly external gap analyses while obtaining the benefit of attorney-client privileged legal services. HIPAA Privacy Solutions includes sets of standardized HIPAA implementation policies, procedures, notices, forms and contract language for various industry sectors.
