Partner Honored for Dedication to Captive Insurance Industry

CHICAGO (August 23, 2005) — McDermott Will & Emery tax partner Tom Jones was honored by the Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) as the recipient of its 2005 Industry Service Award.  Mr. Jones has been actively involved in the work of VCIA for more than a decade as a frequent speaker, conference panelist and, more recently, instructor.  In choosing Mr. Jones to receive this award, the board of directors noted his dedication to the sustainability and quality of the entire industry.  The prestigious award was presented by Molly Lambert, president of VCIA, on behalf of the board of directors and the VCIA membership.

"Tom's willingness to invest his knowledge and enthusiasm in the industry is reflected in his active involvement in many other captive related associations," said Molly Lambert, VCIA President, during the award ceremony.  "He has shared his time and his remarkable intellect without hesitation to improve the stature and strength of the captive insurance industry throughout the world."

The recipient of the Industry Service Award is chosen annually by the board of directors in recognition of a VCIA member who has best supported and contributed to the overall vitality and general welfare of the captive insurance industry.  In the board's judgment, the captive insurance industry has been strengthened and improved because of this member's contributions.

Since 1985, the VCIA has served an important role in establishing Vermont not only as the premiere U.S. captive domicile, but one of the world's largest and most desirable jurisdictions in which to form a captive.  Through successful efforts to promote the general welfare of the captive insurance industry in Vermont, VCIA has earned an international reputation of being a well-respected and highly effective trade association.  For more information visit www.vcia.com.

Mr. Jones has extensive transactional experience in a number of U.S. and offshore captive insurance jurisdictions, including Arizona, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, South Carolina, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Vermont, as well as Barbados, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands.  In 2001, he was recognized by the Government of the Cayman Islands as one of three U.S. individuals who, in the words of the Honorable Financial Secretary, Mr. George McCarthy, had most contributed to the success of captive insurance in the Cayman Islands:  "We value the confidence that you have placed in our jurisdiction, evidenced by the sustained, successful partnership that you have developed with our local insurance community over the years."

Mr. Jones also is a founding faculty member and a director of the International Center for Captive Insurance Education, where he teaches Forming and Operating a Captive Insurance Company.
