CHICAGO — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Joseph S. Adams has rejoined the Firm’s Employee Benefits Department as a partner. Mr. Adams, previously an employee benefits partner based in the Firm’s Chicago office, practiced at MWE from June 1992 to January 2001.
Mr. Adams regularly advises clients in the design, drafting and ongoing operation of 401(k) and other qualified retirement plans, nonqualified retirement arrangements, and welfare/fringe benefit plans. Mr. Adams also has substantial experience advising clients regarding executive and incentive compensation programs including employment agreements, stock based compensation, nonqualified deferred compensation, SERPs, split-dollar life insurance, and the operation of Code Sections 162(m) ($1 million limit on compensation) and 280G (change in control). Mr. Adams frequently advises employers with respect to employee benefits and executive compensation matters in mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions.
From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Adams was with Deloitte & Touche, LLP, most recently serving as the tax partner in charge of the employee benefits tax group in Deloitte’s Chicago office.

Mr. Adams received his law degree from the Cornell University Law School (cum laude, editor Cornell Law Review) and his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago (Economics Honors Program). Mr. Adams is admitted to the Illinois bar.
