U.S. Middle Market Deal of the Year

CHICAGO (December 28, 2004) — The mezzanine financing by Delaware Street Capital of McDermott Will & Emery client, Archibald Candy Corporation, in its sale of Fannie May and Farmer candy brands to Alpine Confections, Inc. was named as the U.S. Middle Market Deal of the Year at this year’s M&A Advisor Awards.  This award honors the transaction and dealmakers whose work and leadership exemplifies the very best in 2004.  With hundreds of deals considered, the selection of the Archibald transaction as Deal of the Year reflected the ability of Archibald’s professionals to overcome significant obstacles at every turn.

Additionally the sale of the Archibald U.S. and Canadian businesses received the 2004 Deal of the Year award from the Chicago Chapter of the Turnaround Managers Association.

McDermott represented Archibald Candy Corporation, debtor in possession, as special M&A counsel in the sale of both of the above transactions.  The McDermott team included corporate partners Neal White and associate Ryan Harris.
