Nationally Renowned IP Litigator Joins McDermott
MENLO PARK, CA — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the addition of IP litigation powerhouse Terry McMahon to its Silicon Valley office. McMahon is best known for his successful representation of high tech heavyweights, such as Advanced Micro Devices and Pacific Bell, on "bet the company" cases taking on major technology companies such as Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Hyundai and Creative Labs. His intelligent, aggressive and straight forward courtroom manner has time and again convinced juries and judges to side with his clients on highly technical patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret cases, which often overwhelm jurors and challenge the court.
McMahon will head McDermott's West Coast IP practice, which includes lawyers in its Silicon Valley, Orange County and Los Angeles offices. He leaves the law firm of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, where he was the chair of the intellectual property group which he started in 1995.
"McDermott Will & Emery's full service IP practice and its commitment to continually build its internationally recognized IP practice in both quality and technical depth were major factors in my decision," said Mr. McMahon. "The firm has significant IP practices in critical locations such as Silicon Valley, Orange County, Boston, Washington, D.C. and London. McDermott's excellent litigation record before the Federal District Courts, its vast experience before the ITC, and its large strategic patent prosecution practice, truly impressed me. With our combined practices, McDermott will have one of the largest and most skilled national and worldwide IP teams, enabling us to offer the very best and most comprehensive IP services to our clients."
"Terry's approach to representation is fantastic - exactly the kind of client dedication McDermott prides itself on," remarked Ray Lupo, head of the firm's IP department. "The addition of Terry will further strengthen our national and international IP litigation prowess. He will give our practice an exciting new dimension."
"The addition of Terry to Ray Lupo in Washington, D.C., Tony de Alcuaz in Silicon Valley and Fay Morriseau in Orange County gives us an extraordinary team of premier IP trial lawyers nationwide," commented Larry Gerber, Firm Chairman.
McDermott's, international intellectual property practice is comprised of more than 100 lawyers resident throughout the Firm's offices. Ray Lupo, who was recently recognized by Legal Times Intellectual Property Magazine as a premier IP litigator, has been strategically building the Firm's IP practice since 1996. Most recently, Larry Cohen, former head of Hammond Suddards IP practice, joined McDermott as head of the Firm's London IP practice.
In addition to its preeminent IP litigation practice, the firm represents industry-leading high tech companies on counseling, procurement and licensing matters in the patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright and trade secret areas.
