IRS Counsel Joins Tax Practice

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Philip J. Levine has joined the Firm’s Tax Department as a partner, resident in the Firm’s Washington, DC office. Prior to joining McDermott Mr. Levine served as Deputy Associate Chief Counsel and Assistant Chief Counsel for the Corporate Division at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Founded as a tax practice, McDermott, Will & Emery has more than 150 professionals in the areas of international, federal, state and local tax, employee benefits and estate planning.

Mr. Levine focuses his practice on corporate tax issues related to reorganizations, acquisitions and dispositions, consolidated returns and bankruptcy and insolvency matters. As Deputy Associate Chief Counsel and Assistant Chief Counsel at the IRS, Mr. Levine was responsible for determining the organization’s position with respect to virtually all significant regulations, rulings, legislation and tax controversies.

Mr. Levine earned a bachelor’s degree cum laude with departmental honors in history from Clark University in 1971. He earned his J.D. cum laude in 1974 from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law. In 1980, he earned his LL.M. from New York University School of Law. He is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States Tax Court, Federal District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and in the state of New York.
