McDermott's Raquel A. Rodriguez Named Co-Chair of Amicus Committee of Florida Bar's International Law Section

MIAMI, FLORIDA (March 11, 2010) — Raquel A. Rodriguez, a partner in the Miami office of global law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP, has been named Co-Chair of the newly formed Amicus Committee of the Section of International Law of The Florida Bar.  The committee is tasked with the submission of amicus briefs on behalf of the Section, when requested by Florida appellate courts, on issues relating to international arbitration and litigation.

Ms. Rodriguez has significant experience in the area of international dispute avoidance, resolution and strategy.  She has written and spoken widely on topics relating to international dispute resolution and is a founding member of the Miami International Arbitration Society.  Ms. Rodriguez is currently working with the Society and the Legislative Committee of The Florida Bar’s International Law Section in asking the Florida legislature to amend Florida’s international arbitration code to bring it into line with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration. 

Ms. Rodriguez served as General Counsel to Florida Governor Jeb Bush from 2002 through 2006.  She was named a “Leading Individual” lawyer in Florida by the respected legal guide, Chambers USA 2009, in the area of Commercial Litigation, and was named a “Super Lawyer” in the March 2009 Corporate Counsel Edition of Super Lawyers in the areas of Business Litigation, International and Government Relations.
