McDermott Will & Emery Names David Dolkas As Head of the Silicon Valley Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department
PALO ALTO, CA (February 25, 2009) – David H. Dolkas, an experienced intellectual property trial lawyer, has been named the new head of McDermott Will & Emery's Silicon Valley Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department. Mr. Dolkas has extensive trial experience, particularly in the area of patent litigation, and is an acknowledged expert in the area of managing complex intellectual property litigation, and has taught as an adjunct professor at Santa Clara University School of Law in this area since 2002.
"Dave's extensive patent litigation and trial experience, combined with his experience educating others on complex IP litigation, have helped prepare him to step into this leadership position," commented Terrence P. McMahon, head of McDermott's global intellectual property practice.
Since 2006, Mr. Dolkas has represented Qualcomm Incorporated as co-lead counsel in patent litigation matters before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and district courts. In December 2008, he led McDermott's ITC hearing team representing Qualcomm to a major victory in the ITC.
Other representative matters include the successful representation of Seagate Technology and Fairchild Semiconductor in their suit against Atmel Corporation and Sumitomo Bakelite involving the sale and manufacturing of allegedly defective semiconductors made with a molding compound sold by Sumitomo Bakelite.
In 2007, Mr. Dolkas taught a class on e-Discovery at Santa Clara University School of Law—one of the first law school classes to be taught on this subject. He has also served as a presenter at numerous bar and professional association meetings on topics relating to managing complex litigation and intellectual property litigation, and has authored several articles on this topic as well.
Mr. Dolkas received his J.D. from The University of San Diego School of Law in 1982, and his B.A. from Loyola Marymount University in 1978.
