McDermott Will & Emery Appoints Leading Renewable Energy Projects Partner to London Office
LONDON (1 September 2008) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery has announced that Dr. Stefan Schmitz has joined the London office as a partner in the Firm's Energy & Infrastructure Group, specialising in renewable energy, particularly wind and solar energy projects. McDermott's London office now comprises 36 partners.
Dr. Schmitz's appointment, from the London and Frankfurt offices of Squire Sanders & Dempsey, expands McDermott's energy project finance capability in London and follows the opening of the Firm's new Houston office in February 2008 led by top Texas energy lawyers John Cogan, Robert Stephens, Scott Arrington, David Locascio and Jose Luis Vittor. The Houston office has also recently announced that leading project finance lawyer David Schumacher has joined the Firm as a partner, where his focus will be energy-related projects.
Stefan Schmitz's practice focuses on renewable energy with particular emphasis on wind and photo voltaic solar electric projects. He regularly advises developers, investors and lenders on joint venture and investment agreements, engineering, procurement and construction contracts (EPC) and operation and maintenance agreements (O&M), connection rights, off-take contracts and energy project financing in Europe and the United States.
