Intellectual Property Department Among Top Providers For the Fortune 100

SILICON VALLEY (August 25, 2008) — McDermott Will & Emery is delighted to announce that the Firm has been ranked as a leading provider of intellectual property service for the Fortune 100 in Corporate Counsel's Who Represents America's Biggest Companies survey (September 2008).  The Firm was recognized for its intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution work for American Express, American International Group, Cardinal Health, Dell, Honeywell International, Lockheed Martin, Morgan Stanley, News Corporation, Time Warner, Verizon Communications and The Walt Disney Company.

"This recent recognition illustrates our commitment to our clients and their continued success," commented Terry McMahon, head of the Firm's global Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department.

The results of the survey are based on public record searches conducted through Thomson Reuters' Litigation and IP Monitor databases.  Litigation rankings are based on data from 2007.  Patent prosecution rankings are based on patent applications and granted patents issued from January 2006 to December 2007 as the granting process takes, on average, more than one year to complete.  The top 10 firms with two or more litigation mentions and one or more patent prosecution mentions were recognized by Corporate Counsel.

Year after year McDermott proves to be the go-to firm for intellectual property services.  The Department has one of the largest concentrations of patent, trademark and copyright prosecution, licensing and litigation services worldwide.  The Firm's Intellectual Property Department is recognized for its trial, ITC and appellate experience and clients describe the Firm as "one of the most complete IP groups around…[with] the firepower to handle the most complex IP issues" (Chambers USA).  The Firm is ranked as one of the most active patent prosecution Firms in the United States.
