California Partners Named Top Intellectual Property Attorneys
MENLO PARK/IRVINE, CA (April 8, 2009) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that four of its California intellectual property partners have been selected by the Daily Journal for its Top Intellectual Property Attorneys for 2009 list. Terrence McMahon, head of the Firm's global Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department; and Bill Gaede, co-chair of the Firm's Life Sciences & Medical Devices Practice Group, were named among the Top 50 Intellectual Property Litigators. Mark Itri, head of the Firm's Orange County IP practice, was named among the Top 25 Portfolio Managers.

Mr. McMahon concentrates his trial practice on patent, copyright, trade secret, trade dress, trademark and other high stakes litigation. He has more than 30 years of trial experience representing technology heavyweights including American Express, Aristocrat Technologies, Creative Labs, Extreme Networks, Fairchild, Fresenius Medical, General Electric, Logitech, Qualcomm Incorporated, Seagate Technology, Silicon Image and Tercica, Inc. on "bet the company" cases taking on major technology companies such as Baxter, Genesis Microchip, Hyundai, Intel and Lucent.
Mr. Gaede focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation in the life sciences and medical device industries. His practice further focuses on risk management for companies addressing freedom to operate issues. He serves as lead counsel for a wide range of companies and research institutes and has experience with genomics, proteomics, small molecule and protein therapeutics, antibodies, diagnostics, formulations and devices. In addition to Mr. Gaede's jury trial experience, he has also argued before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Itri's practice encompasses the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications and he has considerable involvement in both patent and trademark litigation matters. Mr. Itri has extensive experience in client counseling, negotiating and drafting technology transfer agreements, joint development agreements and licenses for various high-tech clients. He also has significant experience in IP strategic planning, patent and trademark portfolio management, opinion work, as well as due diligence in connection with technology and trademark acquisitions.
