Helping in the Time of Need
LOS ANGELES — Lawyers from McDermott Will & Emery have been responding to the call for volunteers and as a result have been helping people who have experienced devastating losses from the California Wild Fires. A number of lawyers from the Firm’s Los Angeles office have been volunteering time to staff telephone lines for the Los Angeles Bar Association's Disaster Legal Services Hot Line for California Wild Fire Relief Victims.
In addition, the Firm has partnered with the Los Angeles Bar Association, and lawyers from the Firm’s Los Angeles and Orange County offices are now advising a number of victims of the wildfire on a pro bono basis. A majority of the representation will be assisting victims’ in obtaining recovery for their losses.
From late October to early November more than 3,500 homes were lost in the 2003 California wildfires that raged through San Diego, Ventura, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.
