Miami Partner Rocky Rodriguez Receives Florida Trend “Legal Elite” Recognition

Peer selection reflects individual accomplishments and office strengths in international law

MIAMI (June 30, 2010) —  The Miami office of McDermott Will & Emery LLP is pleased to announce that Raquel "Rocky" Rodriguez, partner in the Firm's Trial Practice Group, has been selected for inclusion in Florida Trend's 2010 “Florida Legal Elite.”  Florida Trend, a highly regarded statewide magazine focused on business and government, annually conducts a statewide survey asking the members of The Florida Bar to name attorneys they hold in the highest regard or would recommend to others.  Those lawyers nominated, evaluated and selected for the “Florida Legal Elite”, represent less than two percent of the nearly 63,000 Florida Bar members practicing in the state.

Ms. Rodriguez, a former general counsel to Florida Governor Jeb Bush who has previously been among government lawyers to receive “Legal Elite” recognition, was selected in the category of international practice.  She focuses on international and business dispute resolution, government relations, and crisis management.  She regularly advises clients in the life sciences, alternative energy, financial services and high tech sectors with respect to government incentives in Florida.

“This peer recognition for Rocky reflects not only her own considerable accomplishments, but also the substantial strengths that McDermott has developed during more than three decades in South Florida,” said Ira J. Coleman, partner-in-charge of the Firm’s Miami office.  “Plus, with South Florida serving as the gateway to the burgeoning Latin American market, Rocky’s wide-ranging international practice and extensive government experience make her an exceptional resource for clients seeking to pursue global opportunities.”

“Rocky is a leading member of our Florida practice,” Coleman added, “and her ‘Legal Elite’ selection is added confirmation of the important contributions she makes.”

In addition to her listing in Florida Trend’s Legal Elite, Ms. Rodriguez has been ranked as a leading litigation attorney in Florida by Chambers and Partners USA and by SuperLawyers.  She has published and lectured in the areas of litigation, arbitration and election law and has also been an adjunct professor of law at the University of Miami School of Law.  Ms. Rodriguez is a founding member of the Miami International Arbitration Society, is co-chair of the Amicus Committee of the Florida Bar International Law Section and, from 2003 to 2007, was a member of the Florida Bar Judicial Nomination Procedures Committee.
