CMS Ruling Reverses Previous Proposal to Delete 100 Medicare Procedures from ASC List

05/02/2005

On April 29, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services posted an interim final rule updating the list of surgical procedures approved for Medicare-certified ambulatory surgery centers.  In November 2004, CMS had proposed to delete 100 procedures and add 25 procedures.  In the interim final rule, which becomes effective July 5, 2005, CMS announces that it reversed itself with respect to 95 of the 100 codes that it had proposed for deletion. CMS will add 67 procedures, which is 42 more than it had proposed to add in the November notice.   The interim final rule will be published in the Federal Register on May 4. Comments will be accepted for 60 days following publication in the Federal Register.
