EFSA Public Consultation on Draft Guidance Document for Environmental Risk Assessment of GM Plants
03/11/2010On 5 March 2010 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) launched a public consultation on the draft guidance document for the environmental risk of genetically modified (GM) plants.
The draft guidance document, published by EFSA’s GMO Panel, is being presented as the most recently updated and harmonised guidance document for the Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) of GM plants submitted within the framework of Regulation (EC) No. 1829/2003 on GM food and feed or under Directive 2001/18/EC on the deliberate release into the environment of GMOs. It details the criteria to be used and areas of risk to be assessed, providing risk assessors with guidelines on assessing the potential effects of GM plants on the environment, as well as the rationale for data requirements in order to complete a comprehensive ERA of GM plants.
