Encouraging a Responsible Aprroach to Consumer-Driven Health Care
November 8, 2004
Consumer-Driven Health Care (CDHC) is beginning to make significant inroads into the health benefits marketplace, representing one of the fastest growing segments of the employer-sponsored health market. CDHC products, which shift more of the responsibility for health-spending choices onto the patient than traditional plans, were initially designed by small, innovative vendors and have become mainstream products offered by major national health insurers.
McDermott Will & Emery has released a white paper entitled, "Encouraging a Responsible Approach to Consumer Driven Health Care," that outlines recommendations to promote CDHC programs' goals of reducing employer/system costs while improving the health status of consumers. The recommendations in the white paper reflect consensus points that emerged from discussions of an Advisory Board of prominent health care thought leaders at a May 2004 colloquium sponsored by McDermott Will & Emery.
