FTC Issues Advisory Opinion Approving Clinical Integration Program

In an advisory opinion, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has approved a clinical integration program proposed by a physician-hospital organization in Maryland. This is the third time the FTC has approved a clinical integration program proposed by a physician contracting network. Provider contracting networks that jointly contract on the basis of clinical integration—or are considering clinical integration—should carefully consider the elements of the programs that have and have not been approved by the FTC in advisory opinions.
