Internet-based and other forms of e-commerce represent a revolution in the distribution of products and services, as well as a unique challenge to businesses to protect their rights. We have been actively involved in assisting clients anticipate, plan and prepare for the myriad of new business models that are developing as a result of the explosive expansion of the internet. We have advised clients regarding and have developed e-commerce agreements reflecting the distribution relationships between various parties to an e-commerce transaction while minimizing the client's legal exposure.
As part of our Intellectual Property Department, Firm internet lawyers are at the forefront of offering legal advice to clients using and doing business on the internet, including advising clients in the areas of domain names, copyrights, trademarks, patents and trade secrets as they relate to the internet. The Firm advises clients in non-traditional intellectual property law areas implicated by electronic commerce including the areas of censorship, defamation, e-mail, net security and legislation. We have also represented e-commerce companies in responding to Federal Trade Commission investigations and threatened litigations. Likewise, as a new form of commerce, the internet raises both civil and criminal liability issues as well as jurisdictional issues, many of which are ill defined. Our Firm assists clients in operating in this new area of commerce and has represented clients in many of the landmark cases involving the internet.
