Proposition 65 - California
Since its inception in November 1986, California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act (commonly referred to as Proposition 65) has presented increasing compliance challenges to any company doing business in California. The law requires that businesses give warnings to individuals before exposure to any of hundreds of chemicals identified by the state as causing cancer or reproductive toxicity. The law also prohibits the discharge of such chemicals into sources of drinking water. Noncompliance with Proposition 65 can result in litigation that is as costly from a public relations perspective as it is from a financial one.
Our California-based attorneys have extensive experience defending clients on Proposition 65 matters and are on the leading edge of litigation strategy for resolving the many issues that arise both before and after the commencement of Proposition 65-related litigation. In resolving Proposition 65 matters, we strive to ensure that the solutions are practical, cost-effective and workable for our clients.
