White-Collar Criminal Defense

Our White-Collar Criminal Defense Group is one of the United States’ largest and most accomplished.  Our Group consists of more than 30 highly experienced trial lawyers in offices throughout the United States and abroad.  Our goal is to provide exceptional service and representation during government investigations and trials, corporate internal investigations, congressional hearings and in defending whistleblower lawsuits.

Collectively our white-collar lawyers have tried hundreds of cases in federal and state courts throughout the United States. Frequently, however, our most appreciated work on behalf of our clients goes unnoticed by the public. By proactively addressing concerns raised by prosecutors and regulators, we routinely persuade the government not to proceed with costly and reputationally damaging criminal charges or a public lawsuit.

EXPERIENCE WITH GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATIONS
Most of our white-collar lawyers have served as senior federal prosecutors, an experience which has equipped them with a unique perspective to counsel and advise clients facing criminal investigations or indictments. Our Group includes 16 former senior prosecutors from U.S. Attorney's Offices across the country and from the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. Virtually all held senior supervisory positions. In addition, 15 of our attorneys came from the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Internal Revenue Service, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Review and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Our Group has extensive practical experience in a wide variety of white-collar criminal matters including health care, securities, environmental, tax, antitrust, government contracting, commodities and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations, to mention a few.  Our wealth of experience gives us a practical understanding of how businesses operate, their enforcement concerns, and their industry standards and practices.  Our Group's business acumen, combined with its experience as former prosecutors, ensures that we effectively communicate our clients' perspectives to prosecutors and regulators.

TRIAL EXPERIENCE
Collectively our white-collar lawyers have tried hundreds of cases in federal and state courts throughout the country.  This trial experience makes a difference.  Our trial lawyers have won acquittals in high profile health care, tax, commodities, industrial accidents and financial fraud prosecutions.  We also have appeared in virtually every appellate court in the United States.  Finally, we have vast experience dealing with the media, ensuring that our client's interests are best represented when thrust into the public arena.

EXPERIENCE WITH CORPORATE INTERNAL INVESTIGATIONS AND COMPLIANCE PROGRAMS
In the event that a corporation suspects wrongdoing or impropriety by one of its employees or officers, we have extensive experience in conducting confidential internal investigations to assess the nature and extent of the suspected misconduct.  We also work with our clients to assess the implications of an employee’s alleged misconduct, criminal or otherwise, and advise company officers on how to handle a matter of non-compliance.

Prior to any allegation of wrongdoing, we advise clients how to avoid criminal liability exposure.  Our compliance reviews focus on meeting or exceeding the standards established by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizations and compliance with all local laws and regulations.
