Import & Export - Alcohol Beverages & Products

Our Alcohol Beverages and Products Group has extensive experience with all aspects of the importation and exportation of alcohol beverages and products.   We regularly counsel clients on the laws, regulations and policies of the Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau (TTB) and U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP), formerly U.S. Customs.   Our clients include U.S. importers and manufacturers from around the world, and our representation includes helping companies establish U.S. importation arrangements and terminating relationships between foreign manufacturers and U.S. importers.

Our group and affiliated firm consultants advise many companies on TTB policies allowing the export of alcohol beverages and products without payment of the federal excise tax on such products.  We also have represented companies in criminal proceedings, permit actions and audits arising from export activity.

McDermott also offers a broad-based international trade practice, with experience in a variety of transnational proceedings.  We represent clients before the International Trade Court, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of Justice and other related agencies and courts in cases and investigations involving alleged unfair import practices, antitrust, antidumping, countervailing duties and restrictions on imported agricultural products and commodities.  Our lawyers can provide skilled assistance with transfer pricing planning, compliance and controversy resolution, as well as key strategic advice on international trade and international tax.  We also counsel international businesses on evolving national security initiatives applicable to U.S. importers and exporters, such as the USA PATRIOT Act and the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) initiative.
