Racial and Ethnic Diversity
At McDermott Will & Emery we proactively respond to change. As our Firm, the legal profession and society as a whole become more diverse, we have formalized our commitment to the support of racial and ethnic minorities. Based on the 2006 Minority Law Journal’s Diversity Scorecard, McDermott ranks sixth for the highest number of minority partners when compared to the 250 largest law firms in the United States. While these rankings are important, this statistic reflects only a small part of our total commitment.
Our Racial and Ethnic Diversity Committee develops
and institutes policies and procedures for hiring, retention and promotion of racial and ethnic minority lawyers and ensures diversity is a key component in all major Firm-wide strategic decisions. It monitors current policies, surveys Firm members for suggestions for improvement and continually works to raise Firm standards to the highest level of inclusiveness and support.
Our commitment extends beyond our Firm. We support numerous professional diversity associations as well as community service organizations that promote diversity. We further promote diversity through Firm-wide pro bono efforts as well as support the individual commitments of our lawyers and staff. We promote diversity in the communities in which we live and work by providing these communities with financial and tangible support.
