McDermott Sponsors “2011 Small Business Capital Access Forum”
McDermott recently joined with Grant Thornton and NexGen Capital Partners to co-sponsor a premiere event, “2011 Small Business Capital Access Forum: Enhanced Investment Returns: Leverage the Small Business Administration and Create Jobs.”
Held on June 15, 2011, at the University of Chicago, the event was aimed at small business companies and investors seeking to better understand the current economic environment and create enhanced investment returns. The Forum explored market opportunities for private equity sponsors, banks, institutional investors and advisors. It was attended by more than 80 participants, including prominent government leaders and top financial executives at such institutions as Credit Suisse, Wells Fargo Bank, HSBC Capital and The Northern Trust Company.
A key point of discussion was the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Small Business Investment Company program (SBIC) that has stimulated growth for America's small businesses for more than 50 years. From 1994 through 2010, more than $46 billion has been invested and 1.2 million jobs created. McDermott private equity partners Andrew McCune (COR-CHI) and Laurence Bronska (COR-CHI) played prominent roles at this event, with Andrew delivering the welcoming remarks and Larry moderating a panel, “Overview of SBIC Program and Investing in SBICs.”
The 2011 Small Business Capital Access Forum provided an opportunity for participants to network with a variety of investment professionals, meet SBA and banking regulators, explore alternative fundraising strategies including SBICs and discuss market trends. The Forum showcased insights into the most critical questions and solutions to forming and raising new funds as well as addressing emerging manager strategies for producing superior returns and creating jobs. McDermott's involvement in the Forum provided a great opportunity to raise the profile of McDermott's private equity practice and present amongst a number of leading industry and government agencies.
