New Medicare Secondary Payer rules require all liability insurers and self-insurers to register with CMS and report all liability claim settlements, judgments, and awards, regardless of whether there is an admission or determination of liability. Most hospitals and many other health care providers are self-insurers to some extent, and therefore will be required to register and report. This webinar will provide guidance on compliance with new mandatory claim reporting requirements from the perspective of self-insured hospitals and health care captive insurers.
KEY DISCUSSION POINTS
- Background on Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) rules
- Review of new obligations applicable to self-insured hospitals and captive insurers under Section 111 of the Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007 (MMSEA)
- Walkthrough of registration and reporting deadlines as well as potential penalties for non-compliance
- Analysis of challenges that self-insured hospitals and captive insurers may face in implementing this requirement
- Discussion of specific claim resolution strategies with the goal of minimizing exposure to liability
