McDermott Announces Continuation of Medicare Managed Care Legal Issues Forum in 2010
Based on positive feedback from attendees of last year’s webinars, McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the continuation of its Medicare Managed Care Legal Issues Forum.
The forum is a complimentary webcast series that will provide managed care organizations’ in-house counsel with an opportunity to review and discuss current legal issues affecting participants in the Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D Programs. Program participants praised the series for doing a “great job of pointing out the direction the Feds are going” and identifying “what we as lawyers need to know.”
With the ongoing changes to the Programs expected to be adopted through rulemaking and “subregulatory” guidance, the likelihood of increased government enforcement actions and pending health reform legislation, 2010 will likely see rapid developments within both that have immediate and long-term consequences with significant legal repercussions. McDermott expects that in-house lawyers and compliance officers will benefit from an opportunity to analyze these developments during the year.
AMONG THE TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION
Topics will be selected as legal implications evolve during 2010 and may include the following:
- Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services final rulemaking related to its October 2009 proposed rule
- Emerging trends in compliance, such as marketing and government audits and investigations, including Risk Adjustment Data Validation (RADV) audits
- Health care reform implications for Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D
FORMAT AND PARTICIPATION
Each webcast will be approximately 60 minutes long, and will provide an in-depth presentation on a particular issue as well as time for participant discussion. Participants will remain anonymous during each webcast – identifying themselves only by their first name and the type of organization they work for (e.g., MA Plan, MA-PD Plan, PDP) – in order to foster discussion.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
In-house attorneys that advise health plans participating in the Medicare Advantage and Part D Programs. Compliance officers may also find the Forum useful, depending on the topic.
The Forum is offered free of charge. Each seminar will take place via webcast. You will be emailed a dial-in number, supporting materials and general instructions upon registration.
CLE ACCREDITATION
Each program in the Forum series has been approved for one hour of CLE credit in California, Illinois, New York, and Texas. A Certificate of Attendance will be made available to participants requesting CLE credit in all other states.

These seminars are designed for the educational benefit of in-house counsel of managed care organizations. Please be advised McDermott has the right to restrict attendance and may limit participation in this event.
