McDermott Will & Emery has been fortunate to have its commitment to pro bono and community service recognized by public interest law firms and agencies, bar associations and other organizations both within the United States and internationally. Please take a moment to read about some of the recognition and awards that McDermott and its lawyers and staff have received over the past few years.

2010

 

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services (Massachusetts Pro Bono Standing Committee) honored McDermott with the 2010 Adam Pro Bono Publico Award for outstanding dedication to providing pro bono legal services to the underserved and underrepresented.

In the February issue of the Washington Lawyer,the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program recognized McDermott for its dedication to and participation in the program’s 2010 Advocacy & Justice Clinic.

Equality Illinois ranked McDermott as one of the three most LGBT-friendly firms in Illinois. 

The Family Defense Center recognized McDermott for its dedication to numerous matters focused on preserving the family unit.

On January 13, 2010, Human Rights First (HRF) honored McDermott with its Marvin E. Frankel Award in recognition of its Firm’s dedication to HRF’s advocacy efforts as well as several complex asylum and immigration matters.

The Orangewood Children’s Foundation recognized McDermott for supporting abused, neglected and abandoned children.

The Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) named McDermott to its Pro Bono Recognition Roster for the Firm’s noteworthy pro bono contributions to ensure that those in need have access to, and a voice in, the U.S. legal system. 

United Way honored McDermott with its Great Beginnings Award for running an exceptional first- or second-time employee fundraising campaign.

Melissa Nott Davis received special recognition by the Massachusetts Pro Bono Standing Committee for her leading our collaboration with the Medical-Legal Partnership | Boston and the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership and our extensive effort with the Children’s Law Center of Massachusetts to publish Until They Die a Natural Death: Youth Sentenced to Life Without Parole in Massachusetts.

The Surfrider Foundation awarded its Special Recognition Award to Jeremy T. Elman, Daniel R. Foster, Mark J. Itri and Brock F. Wilson for their significant contributions to the organization.

inMotion awarded its 2010 Commitment to Justice Award to Lisa Gerson and Lauren E. Handel for the zealous representation of a domestic violence victim.

Edward (Ned) Leibensperger, former partner and now Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court (Nom. Dec. 2010), received special recognition by the Massachusetts Pro Bono Standing Committee for his dedication to the Dwayne v. Granholm case.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Los Angeles Chapter, awarded Douglas M. Mancino its Legacy of Philanthropy Award for his significant contributions as a philanthropist over the last 25 years.

The Lawyers for the Creative Arts honored Judith McCue for her distinguished support of art institutions.

The Chicago Bar Association and The Chicago Bar Foundation awarded its 2010 Maurice Weigle Exceptional Young Lawyer Award to Todd A. Solomon for his significant contributions to pro bono and community service and the improvement of the legal profession for more than 11 years.

The Pro Bono Civil Rights Panel of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California recognized David M. Stein for his assistance in developing the panel 10 years ago and for his dedication to the civil rights of prisoners.
