We have one of the world’s leading private equity practices. Our private equity partners have been helping large cap, middle market and small cap private equity clients since the mid-1980s.

Broad geographic coverage. We advise private equity clients, including buy-out funds, venture capital firms, hedge funds, real estate funds and other alternative investment vehicles, doing business principally in the U.S., European and Asian markets. Lawyers based in our U.S. and European offices have played a leading role in hundreds of private equity transactions, for both public and private companies, ranging in size from less than $100 million to more than $45 billion. McDermott’s strategic alliance with MWE China Law Offices in Shanghai provides additional private equity experience.

Assistance in all phases of an investment. We assist clients in connection with their control and minority investments, including initial acquisitions or start-ups, divestitures, add-on acquisitions, financings and various exit transactions, including dispositions, hedging transactions, initial public offerings and complex recapitalizations.

Comprehensive experience. We provide coordinated teams with comprehensive experience in the areas of mergers and acquisitions; compensation and benefits; tax; senior, second lien and high-yield debt financing; corporate finance; environmental; real estate; antitrust; intellectual property; international trade; and government relations to assist clients with all phases of their investments.

Health law experience that makes us unique. With more than 50 years of experience serving the health care industry, we have one of the country’s largest and most prestigious health care practices. Our international health team, which includes more than 85 lawyers resident in the Firm’s Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Munich, New York and Washington, D.C., offices, counsels leading organizations in every major sector of the health care industry as well as private equity funds investing in the health care sector.

Broad-based energy law experience. Our energy practice includes more than 70 lawyers. Many practiced at FERC, CFTC or state PUCs, enabling us to provide clients with advice and insight regarding transaction structuring, the scope of agency jurisdiction, current regulatory focus and initiatives, and compliance policies and procedures in the context of investments. Our energy lawyers also have extensive experience in energy mergers and acquisitions and tax, renewable energy, emissions and other new products, energy trading and structured energy finance.

Assisting management teams. We have extensive experience in separately advising portfolio company management teams on their participation in buyouts and other private equity investments by funds.
