Court Tells Justice Department to Release 1950s Gay ‘Purge’ Documents

Lisa Linsky called McDermott’s pro bono work for the Mattachine Society to secure a court order that the FBI release documents on a 1950s purge of LGBT federal employees a “tremendous victory” that is “important to the preservation of LGBT American history.” But she noted there is no way to accurately predict when, if at all, the Mattachine Society will actually receive the documents being sought.
