Todd Welty was chosen as a Law360 Tax MVP for 2016, in part for his major victory for a German auto parts supplier in a high-stakes privilege dispute with the IRS. That dispute, named one of Law360’s biggest federal tax cases of the year, added to Mr. Welty’s track record of scoring difficult victories against the IRS. Concerning privilege protection for confidential tax advice, Mr. Welty said: “The IRS constantly looksfor ways to pierce that privilege, and here they were unable to do so.”
